Call of Duty: Modern Warfare install now exceeds a 250GB SSD

You most certainly cannot stop the growth of the Call of Duty franchise. With the continued success of both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as well as its live-service cousin, Call of Duty: Warzone, the community has grown leaps and bounds over the last year. It helps that both Activision as well as developer Infinity Ward have been proactive in supporting the scene. New seasons, content, patches, and bug fixes have come at a constant pace. This is undoubtedly welcomed by the community, however, there is a hefty price to pay. Not entirely in terms of dollars and cents, but more for your storage space. In fact, the first-person shooter will no longer fit a standard 250 GB SSD.

It has been a long time coming. Initially, the system requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare pegged storage at a recommended 175 GB of free space. That was already a big load. An August update then pushed the game to over 200 GB. And if you thought that was already overkill, @BattleNonSense pointed out on Twitter that a lot of people’s favorite shooter is now taking up even more space. Another caveat is that it will not update the game as well.

A chunky one

Not only are you locked out of new updates, but you will also need to find even more space to accommodate the behemoth that is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. All of the space, just for one game. Granted, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare does include the substantial singleplayer campaign, the co-op Special Ops mode, and perhaps the biggest component, the always live battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone. Console players are getting around this with the options of uninstalling certain modes or packs. PC players, on the other hand, are out of luck on this iteration of the franchise.

An entire SSD and then some, all housing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. We are already sweating at the brow at the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
