Ember Lab’s Kena: Bridge of Spirits has been delayed to 2021

First revealed back at the PlayStation 5 event in June, it seems we will have to wait a bit longer before getting our hands on Kena: Bridge of Spirits. The wonderfully animated adventure about Kena, the young spirit guide, has now been delayed by developers Ember Lab. The initial holiday 2020 release window will now shift to the first quarter of 2021. The original window was still feasible under normal circumstances. However, working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the development process for Kena.

In a statement shared on Twitter, Ember Lab expressed its thanks to the fans and community that have already taken a liking to the game. Unfortunately, 2020 has not been easy when it comes to bringing a project like Kena: Bridge of Spirits to life.

“This year has brought many challenges and our transition to working from home has caused development to move slower than we hoped. For this reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of Kena: Bridge of Spirits to Q1, 2021,” Ember Lab explained. “We have not made this decision lightly, but feel it is best for the game and well-being of the team. We will use this time to give the game the polish it deserves and deliver an experience that meets our vision and your expectations.”

The right call

Although it is disappointing news, the decision to delay the game remains a wise one. After all the positive buzz and excitement following its reveal, it would be disappointing to push out a game that fails to capture the essence that has been shown off thus far. The adventure of Kena will bring players on a journey to discover the secrets of an ancient village and its residents. As a Spirit Guide, Kena will need to use her magical staff and the aid of adorable little companions, the Rot, to restore the land.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits will come to PC via the Epic Games Store early next year.
